I'm currently following a few courses about C# and one of them is Bob Tabor's Microsoft Virtual Academy course which isn't game development related but I like his lessons and it came highly regarded. My question is can I just use one or the other? Can I share scripts between them without concern? However this might not be available for Monodevelop or the Mac. I had tried downloading Visual Studio for Mac but it seems different than the PC version which can be confusing for beginners like me.Īlso I heard of some add on called Resharper for Visual Studio which is meant to assist you. Are they pretty much the same thing and achieve the same thing? I like using Monodevelop with Unity and the Mac seems to like it more too. If you work with a cross-platform technology. Some IDEs and code editors may cover some project types, but Microsoft always starts with VS. The most important reason people chose Visual Studio is: If a project type or a platform is available for C, it's available in Visual Studio. Unity uses Monodevelop and Windows seems to like Visual Studio. Visual Studio is ranked 2nd while MonoDevelop is ranked 4th. I have a both a Windows PC and a Macbook that I switch between the two for Unity development. I'm very new to C# and keen to learn for mostly Unity and game development but not exclusively.
